On Location – Plainville, Kan.

So I'm on location in Plainville, Kan., (23 miles north of Hays) for the Hammerschmidt-Becker wedding tomorrow. It's my second wedding partnered with Karen Mikols (see our blog over at heartlandphoto.blogspot.com). I was scouting some possible locations for scenic bride and groom portraits when I stumbled upon what I believe to be a small circular dirt racing track. I was supposed to be at the lake. Anyway, I thought it was about time to revive and old photo tradition ... the self-portrait! So this is me and Romeo on the track, not that Romeo has any place on a race track.

A few old tires littered one turn in the track.

I did find the lake, but it has seen better days as has this boat which was marooned at least 300 yards from the nearest drop of water. I feared walking up to it that I might find a body inside and wondered what I'd do if I did.

I soon found out that I'd probably lose my lunch as what appeared to be a deer carcass had been dumped behind the boat. I quickly made this photo and left the scene. This won't be a part of tomorrow's photo shoot!
