Karen and I photographed Lori and Derek's wedding last weekend on Lori's family's farm near Windom. Her father, Jim, is the fourth generation to farm the land in western McPherson County. Lori's brother is next in line to take over guaranteeing that the farm will remain in the Nelson family for many more years. While scouting locations after the rehearsal dinner, we happened upon this old red barn which just happened to be near the house that Lori grew up in. And the chair? It was just sitting in the middle of a nearby basketball court as if it were waiting for other to show up for a game of horse. We repositioned it and I showed Lori how I envisioned her posing. Of course, she did a much better interpretation than did I. Thanks, Karen, for snapping this frame of me in a (somewhat) compromising position.

I spent the past weekend playing wedding photographer with Karen at Erin and Shane's wedding in Lawrence. I know Erin through her sister, Rachelle, with whom I went to high school. They first contacted me nearly two years ago to talk about wedding photography. I'm so glad they bought into our style and vision for wedding photography! As we were waiting for the shuttle bus to take the guests from the chapel to the reception, I gathered everyone behind the newlyweds for a fun group photo. After church on Easter Sunday, we went over to Gramma Karen and Grampa Keith's house for brunch with Nan and Pop. We ate eggs, bacon, biscuits and fruit. Maddie ate her hands.

When we got home, we made a formal portrait of Maddie in her Easter outfit.


It made her hungry so she ate her hands again.


Maddie poses will the three stuffed bunnies she got for Easter. She likes them much more than the real Easter bunny she saw at the mall.


"But I don't like tummy time!"


"OK. Maybe it's not so bad."


Sisters. As a coworker at KU put it, "I don't know who is cuter!"

I purchased and downloaded our tickets to the Cincinnati Reds game that we'll be going to next month during our Memorial Day road trip. I can't tell you how excited I am for this game! I saw my first Major League Baseball game in Cincinnati when I was nine years old. I don't remember who they played or the final score. The Reds played in Riverfront Stadium at the time but it has since been replaced by Great American Ball Park. I'm sure I'll make it to a Royals game this year and some buddies and I have kicked around the idea of road tripping to Arlington to see the Texas Rangers as it's the next closest ball park after KC. However, the game in Cincinnati, during which they'll be playing intra-state rival Cleveland, will be my favorite of the season.

While everyone now is more interested in Maddie than Harley, she does what she can to steal the spotlight. Today, at Brent's birthday dinner (Happy Birthday, Brent!) at Nan and Pop's, she very well may have outdone herself. Harley always runs from the car to the front door and bolts in looking for Pop just as quick as someone can open the door. Today, apparently, Pop took exception to the attention, telling her, in his gentle, soft-spoken voice, to "get down, you sonuva bitch!" when she jumped up on his lap. Well, a dog's love is unconditional (or how quickly they forget!) and Harley made her move just as soon as he dozed off after the meal.


Mouse, who made the trip up from OKC, couldn't believe it. On a side note, it was good to see Mouse today. The get-togethers at Nan and Pop's are always just a little bit more entertaining when she's around. ;)


Gramma Karen thought it was hilarious, too. (Nice four-generation photograph, don't you think?)


But that wasn't the only thing Harley did. We should have known from the start that today would be entertaining. It started when Harley was convinced that her bag of Charley Bears was not empty.


Later, during wine time, she pulled up a chair and made herself comfortable.


And before dinner, she watched Nan make the final preparations before serving.
