"We wanna pitcher, not a belly itcher!"

Angie and I went to Taylor and Savannah's baseball game tonight. It was all I looked forward to all day long. It's been a long week at work. But, it's been an even longer week for Brent and Tori, who've been sitting at the Wesley PICU with their infant son who's battling bacterial meningitis. There's been good days and worse days. Today was both so even though I'm sure it was hard for Brent and Tori to be away from the hospital, it was good to see them out at the game. Brent pitches for their team and the other parents on the team really admire him. I do, too, but couldn't help but think of that chant I used to repeat when I was a Little Leaguer when Angie told me Brent was a pitcher.

Brent takes some extra time helping Savannah with her batting stance. I shot this and quickly moved to the other side.

And I'm glad I did because the look on Savannah's face is priceless! Something tells me she might be one-and-done for baseball.

Taylor, on the other hand, is pretty darn good! He ripped a double on his last at bat.

One of the other moms/coaches on the team saw me shooting and asked for me to shoot a team photo since tonight was the team's last game. We shot a more serious (as serious as 6-year-olds can be) team photo then I made a quick snap as they goofed off for another camera.

Hey, Kathy!

The governor came to the medical school yesterday to sign of a bill authorizing the expansion of KU's pharmacy school to Wichita. Following the ceremony, she mingled with some pharmacy students from Lawrence who came down for the event. Monday was also the first day for new students and new residents start Thursday. With so much going on, I almost felt like I was back in the newspaper business. I'm glad I'm not, though. The Eagle announced layoffs last week that snatched two in the photo department (the night desk editor and a shooter) and my good friend Chad lost his job in Daytona Beach on Monday. Hang in there, Chad ... there's life after newspapers!

We have seen the enemy and they are ants!

It's that time of year, we've been told, for ants. We've been living with the little boogers for about three months now. This morning they were so bad that I went to work late so that I could wage war with the angry army of ants that had infiltrated out kitchen overnight. They are thick as thieves and I found them covering a nearby tree, too.

I sure hope I get the last laugh. I bought some Terro at Wal-Mart and set about eight traps. The ones outside blew away throughout the day but they were mighty popular for awhile. I hope they're gone in a few days. Otherwise I think it's going to be "that time of year" for ants all danged summer!

My New Favorite Place

Angie and I took Harley to Sedgwick County Park last night. It was a great night. A little humid but at least the wind wasn't howling. In the middle of the park is a giant hill that is used for exercise. It's also a great place to sled in the winter time. I'd never seen it before so we hiked to the top. Angie quipped that it reminded her of Squaw Peak in Phoenix. It's not quite Squaw Peak, but it's a refreshing change to feel on top of the world in Wichita.
This was shot with my new fisheye lens. I'm in acquisition mode this summer as I continue to upgrade my equipment. Hopefully I'll be getting some new gear at work soon, too. It's just like Christmas!
